Integration & Customization

Overview

Dynamics GP features an extensive set of tools to customise, extend and integrate the application, so that you can modify the system to suit the way you work as well as adapt it to meet your particular industry needs. There is huge potential for adding new features and functionality, whilst at the same time maximising the upgradeability of your solution.

Customise

Screens can be easily modified, allowing users to add or hide fields, alter screen prompts, change tab sequence and globally modify field terminology using the built-in Modifier tool. See Modifier with Visual Basic Applications tab for more information.

The personalisation and customisation tool set allows partners and customers to create real-time, transactional connections and data synchronisation between Dynamics GP and other business applications. This ensures data integrity and consistency, minimises duplication of effort and maximises business efficiency

Integrate

The Integration and Developer Toolkits for Dynamics GP are all about extending the reach of Dynamics GP. There are two primary goals to this. Firstly, the intention is to give secure access to relevant information held within the ERP system to non-finance staff within your organisation as well as to customers, suppliers and partners. Secondly, to add new capabilities via online services, mobile devices and application integration to further automate business processes which are tailored to your specific organisational needs and which can greatly increase operational efficiency.

Modifier with VBA

This module allows you to change every screen slightly or dramatically: add fields, remove fields, change prompt descriptions, make fields required, make fields read-only or change tab sequences. Also allows different screens to be seen by different users. VBA is the same powerful development tool which comes with Microsoft Office: this allows a layer of business logic to be added to any field on any screen. A simple example includes enforcing a coding format. Any repetitive task can probably be streamlined by adding some VBA logic.

The architecture of Dynamics GP ensures that modified forms or VBA code is kept separate from the core dictionaries. In other words, you never change the core, you only add a layer. This prevents problems with upgrades and makes troubleshooting much easier.

Extender

Version 10.0 of Dynamics GP greatly simplified the Extender tool set. Extender is an easy to use, competitively priced module which allows the user to easily link additional windows into existing forms, expand note fields, add data fields, create data-entry templates and customise lookups without writing a single line of code. It allows you to develop strong business processes and enrich your reporting power.

Standard Edition

Powerful customisation and integration tool which enables extra fields and extra windows to be easily created without writing code and facilitates data import from external sources into Dynamics GP. Complete mini-applications, such as time and attendance, rentals management, contact management and others can be written within a few days. Fields can be of the following types: data entry, conditional or calculated. Seamlessly integrates with the rest of your system. All windows created have exactly the same look & feel. Also includes other Dynamics GP functionality, such as SmartLists and drill-downs, and automatically works with the new windows.

Enterprise Edition

Includes Standard Edition functionality plus additional features which provide even more power, such as posting routines to Receivables Management, Payables Management, General Ledger, Sales Order Processing, recurring documents, mail merges, Calendars, Auto Increment ID, Linked Reports, macros, enhanced searching.

Developer Toolkit

The Developer Toolkit, which incorporates Web Services and eConnect, helps you integrate data from Microsoft and non-Microsoft platform data sources, including Web services, CRM applications, Web storefronts, and legacy applications, with Dynamics GP.

This toolkit dramatically extends the power and value of Dynamics GP systems, enabling Developers to easily create integrations that can move business documents (XML/SOAP) in and out of Dynamics securely, reliably and using business logic within Dynamics to check data integrity. Also provides the ability for Developers to use familiar languages, such as VB or C# within Visual Studio .Net, in order to create additional business logic / application forms with the same look and feel as already exists within Dynamics. Complemented by Web Services throughout the system with over 140 touch-points. Also includes eConnect, consistent Event Model, Extensible Policy/Behaviour Model. Perfect for enabling seamless live integrations between Dynamics GP back office systems and front office CRM and eCommerce systems.

eConnect

A powerful toolset which enables real-time and accurate integrations from outside data sources to Dynamics GP to be easily and quickly set up. It's suitable for very high volume environments and integrations to Web transaction systems. It uses industry standard technologies, including COM, Microsoft Message Queuing (MSMQ), BizTalk, Web Services and XML Document Exchange. Available as separate modules for core financials, Purchase Order Processing (POP) and Sales Order Processing (SOP).

Integration Manager

Integration Manager can be used to design re-usable import templates that integrate date from outside programs, and it has been improved in version 10.0 to take advantage of the and the eConnect code thus enabling the bi-directional flow of information between web-based applications.

Powerful batch-based module which enables integrations with feeder systems, such as payroll, student records, manufacturing and others to be set up relatively quickly and easily. Various data sources are catered for, including various text formats: ODBC, SQL and XML.

Intuitive mapping tool with numerous rule set-ups. It uses business logic within Dynamics GP to verify transactions with superb error and exception reporting. Integrations are batch type typically set to run overnight.
